The cases of drivers who allow themselves high speed continue. For the last few days, one was detected in oncoming traffic on AM Trakia, and the other in Plovdiv with the record limit of 50 km/h. – 127 km/h, Nova TV recalls.
„The legislator continues to believe that the forms of increasing criminal sanctions will stop the war on the roads. I don't think it's hard to change the approach. The question is whether there is a desire to change it. It is not bad to double and triple fines, but if there is no collection of these fines, or if it is imposed years after the offense has been committed, then such a sanction has no effectiveness. If a person drives at a high speed, and is not fined immediately, then he will drive his car at the same high speed”, commented lawyer Silvia Petkova.
According to her, society knows that there are no penalties for driving at high speed, and this is where the problem of recklessness on the roads lies. “The control and its effective exercise, together with the quick imposition of the sanction, will force a massive change of thinking in society”, Petkova believes.
According to her, it is not so much the fear of having the car taken away that leads to a decision not to commit a specific act, but the belief that a person will not be caught if they break the rules.
„The more public intolerance and media coverage there is, the better. In this way, people would think that since society does not tolerate a certain behavior, it means it is not right, Petkova said.
