Sector “Bulgarian identity documents“ in the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior (OD of the Ministry of the Interior) in Kardzhali is one of the busiest in the country, especially in the summer months, the directorate reported, quoted by BTA.
Just since the beginning of the year, over 30,000 personal documents have been issued. By June 20, 12,450 identity cards and 18,904 passports were issued, and in the period from June 1 to June 20, 2,052 identity cards and 3,348 passports were issued, the police added.
The greater workload during the June days is also due to the Muslim holiday Kurban Bayram, around which many dual citizens with expiring identity documents took advantage of coming from Turkey for the holiday and submitted applications for replacement, the directorate said.< /p>
Around the previous holiday - Ramazan Bayram in April, applications for replacement of documents were twice as many as usual. Only for period 8 – On April 10, the number topped 3,000, down from just under 1,000 in the last week of March.
From the OD of the Ministry of the Interior – Kardzhali also informed that the acceptance of applications for new generation ID cards started on June 17, and 469 citizens from the Kardzhali district have already received them.
