The sea water of the central beach in Kranevo was examined today with a mobile laboratory. The reason is an accident at the treatment plant near the resort village. The Basin Directorate found no cause for alarm. However, the Regional Health Inspectorate in Dobrich issued a call “to limit as much as possible the use of water in this area for bathing”.
The Ministry of Regional Development is working to eliminate the accident that occurred on the collection pipes of the "Albena" treatment plant, which were discharged into the sea.
"She turned out to be more serious than we expected. The pipe was broken in 2 places. "Subsequently, during a diving inspection and subsequent bathymetry, it turned out that the section is quite damaged and emergency restoration will be necessary," noted Petar Dimitrov, Acting Minister of Environment and Water.
"I want to clearly state that this is not about untreated wastewater, but about the discharge of wastewater, after treatment,", he added.
The indicators that the Basin Directorate monitors are for harmful chemical compounds. The samples taken today showed no deviation from quality standards.
"On June 4, we took the first samples when the accident was reported. So yesterday we also did a trial recruitment, today too. The results of these indicators are within the norm for a good state of coastal sea waters," explained Yavor Dimitrov, director of the "Black Sea Region" Basin Directorate.
Health inspectors examine the water for “Escherichia coli“, “intestinal enterococci“, “Salmonella“ and other microbiological indicators. Despite the calls of the RZI to limit the use of the water in this area for bathing as much as possible, there are quite a few beachgoers.
"I have absolutely no worries. We've been bathing so far, there's nothing wrong with us," comments a beachgoer.
