The fire department registered over 1,000 more accidents this year compared to 2023, which include emergency situations during storms, hailstorms, floods, etc. Chief Commissioner Alexander Zhartov - director of the "Fire Safety" Directorate told BNT and protection of the population”.
"At the moment, compared to last year, we have more than 1000 more accidents. They are not only due to the fires. Last week we also had storms that affected Veliko Tarnovo, Nova Zagora, Kazanlak, so the situation is dynamic in terms of accidents, but they are more than last year. Rainfall at the beginning of the year is a prerequisite for the high vegetation, which creates additional complications in the event of a fire," said Zhartov.
"The risks of fires are presupposed by the high temperatures, the vegetation is extremely high, it is already dry, so any activity that is related to lighting a fire, giving off sparks also implies a high risk of a fire occurring", summarized the director of the Main Directorate "Fire Safety and Protection of the Population" .
Dzhartov also commented on the situation in Sakar mountain, where fires have been raging since Sunday.
"Usually, the occurrence of fires in the Sakar Mountains is a result of human activity - disposal of butts, cleaning of pastures, the risk is always high. Work continues on the bulldozer that was provided to us on Sunday, so that additional clearings can be built and the fire will not be allowed to spread. In my opinion, my colleagues will deal with the fire today in the late afternoon."
