Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov denied that there was a release of radioactive water from the Kozloduy NPP; and that there is no danger for the workers there and for the population, BNT reported.

With this statement, he practically ignored and contradicted the alarming messages both from officials in the Kozloduy NPP system and from recognized and respected experts.

For example, the deputy executive director of the NPP "Kozloduy" Andrey Krasnocharov called what happened a "slight accident". He made this statement to "Focus" on the occasion of the leakage of radioactive water from Block VI of the Kozloduy NPP; earlier this week.

"Indeed a mistake was made in collecting a drainage scheme and this resulted in one part of the water overflowing out, ie. in the premises of the hermetic volume of the block. This is unpleasant as a case, but it does not lead to any dangers and consequences, since the very premises in which the equipment in question is located are designed for exactly this. That is, the leak was cleaned up afterwards and there was no additional radiation to the staff, as the organization was conducted under strict control," commented Krasnocharov.

The case gained popularity after a comment by nuclear energy expert Georgi Kaschiev, in which he said that "there is a fairly high probability that not all the damage can be cleaned up".

"It's impossible for me to clear everything. The next time the hermetic volume is opened, probably during the recharge in the fall, there will be traces of corrosion everywhere," said Georgi Kaschiev. "In the future, there will be cases of sudden shutdowns of sensors, cable breaks,", he added.

Andrey Krasnocharov was adamant that there were no consequences for the staff, the premises, or the environment.

"There is no reason to worry. Even this event is not subject to reporting to the NRA (Nuclear Regulatory Agency), but still we informed it that it happened and accordingly took the necessary measures to eliminate the consequences", said the deputy executive director of the Kozloduy NPP. .

Now the caretaker minister has completely denied that there was such an incident. Let us recall that Vladimir Malinov as the head of the state-owned "Bulgartransgaz" was the main actor in the construction of "Turkish Stream" through Bulgaria and is not a specialist in nuclear energy.
