The question is wrongly posed. This is what he said in the show "Face to Face" on BTV, the acting Minister of Culture, Prof. Nayden Todorov, on the occasion of the dispute over the place of storage and display of the Panagyur Treasure. We remind you that municipal councilors from Plovdiv requested that it be returned to the Archaeological Museum of the city. The treasure is currently kept in the National History Museum.
I can understand the municipal councilors because they have to look after the interests of the city. But in this case they do not coincide with the national interests. This is not about the city, but about the museum – Regional or National. The National History Museum is the museum of the state, said Prof. Todorov.
This is owned by the museum in Plovdiv, but it is also owned by the state of Bulgaria. It is logical that the treasure should be presented, especially abroad, by the state, by the National History Museum, he added.
This is a matter of misunderstanding. Currently, the Ministry of Culture is organizing the treasure to be presented at the Getty Museum. in Los Angeles, and the hundreds of thousands of dollars from this will go to the Regional Museum in Plovdiv, the Minister of Culture pointed out.
We are talking about national cultural value, not regional, not local. Its place is in the National History Museum. If people wish, let them vote and move the museum to another city, comments Prof. Nayden Todorov.
He also announced that several programs are being restarted, especially those related to the Recovery and Sustainability Plan, because there is a risk of losing tens of millions of Euro funds intended for Bulgarian culture.
