Europe, America and the entire West are in a leadership crisis, said the political scientist

There is no leadership crisis of NATO, but a crisis of the Western world as a whole. Europe, America and the entire West are in a leadership crisis.

This opinion was expressed before the BNR by political scientist Assoc. Ognyan Minchev.

"Biden demonstrated his now all-too-infamous frailties related to age and health. "A number of other leaders were quieter and more inconspicuous than in the very recent past," he said of the presentation of key Western leaders at NATO's anniversary forum.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, regardless of whether she is considered a populist and a leader or not, turned out to be a prime minister, a leader who categorically accepted the commitments of her country, and for all the causes of the Western world, Meloni's contribution is rather positive, said Prof. Minchev.

According to him, Orban "is not even a Trojan horse" of Russia and China in the EU and NATO, and "open representative of Russian imperial interest" and of the eastern interaction between Moscow and Beijing. In his words, "Orban is a specific case".

Trump and Orbán are too close on the basis of their opposition to the liberal status quo in America and Europe, the political scientist also noted.

Regarding the pressure on Joe Biden to refuse to participate in the presidential elections in November, Ognyan Minchev commented that the Democratic Party is uniting around the thesis that he should step down. At the same time, however, problems would begin around the new nomination of the Democrats, he added.

"The image of the USA, both because of this problem and because of the deep internal political divisions and polarization, is constantly easing, decreasing. For almost a quarter of a century, the US has had successive presidents who, with their policies, are constantly eroding the position of the US as the leader of the Western world," Minchev emphasized in the program "Saturday 150".

On the subject of Ukraine, the political scientist is not extremely pessimistic about Kiev's chances of achieving a "significant part of its goals".

Membership of Ukraine in NATO could be used as a propaganda tool to put pressure on the enemy, but this is also related to concerns about NATO's direct involvement in the war, explained Associate Professor Ognyan Minchev.

"In a war, especially this one, there are far more questions than obvious trends and answers."
