A strong wind ignites the fires near the villages of Krainevo and Strandzha - 1

At the entrance to the village of Strandzha this morning all the forces of the police, fire and gendarmerie gathered.

„The fire continues to develop in a broadleaf massif – between the villages of Krainevo and Strandzha. There is no danger to populated areas, but in the midday and afternoon hours, as the temperatures rise, a very strong wind comes out, which ignites the fires. Thus, places that did not burn start anew”, commented to bTV the senior commissioner, deputy director of the General Directorate of Public Safety and Security.

„The wind is our biggest problem, which constantly changes its direction. And last night, while we were doing firefighting, it was very loud, it didn't let up all night long. We have made clearings from which we are trying to enter the direction of the spread of the fire and limit it, he added.

„Crews will leave when we have a localized fire and when we are sure we are moving towards eradication. At the moment, there is no such situation, so they will not leave. We have 34 fire engines on the ground with over 100 firefighters. There are also 4 bulldozers and specialized equipment from the "Border Police" and "Gendarmerie”, explained Senior Commissioner Lyubomir Barov.

"There are also over 30 employees of the State Forestry with all-terrain vehicles on site, who also enter, as well as 60 military personnel from the Ministry of Defense. Today, four helicopters and two airplanes will be involved“, he also said.

Unfortunately, the week passed under the sign of the fires that engulfed our country and caused unprecedented damage. During all these days, the bTV teams make us empathize with the grief and loss of people, the actions of the state and the efforts of firefighters and volunteers.
