A tire caught fire on the highway "Thrakia" and burned. The accident happened 75 km on the highway between Pazardzhik and Ihtiman. A kilometer-long traffic jam has formed on the roadway. Movement takes place only in the overtaking lane.
The signal was given at 2.30 in the night and two fire engines were immediately dispatched to the scene and extinguished the flames. The tire caught fire in motion.
The heavy-duty truck was transporting fabrics and plastic products from Turkey to Serbia. The goods and the entire vehicle were completely burnt. The driver, who is a 24-year-old Serbian citizen, received burns on his legs. He tried to put out the flames himself. According to him, the fire started from the back of the trailer.
The flames also engulfed dry grass in the banquette, and also spread to the nearby fields.
There is still smoldering smoke from some of the goods that caught fire, and this requires another fire team to remain on the scene. Heavy equipment is trying to pull the burnt truck out of the road.
