Over 10 tragic incidents only on the Southern Black Sea coast since the beginning of the season. In most cases, these are older people with heart diseases who have not assessed their health and the time in which to go to the beach, or foreigners who go to the beach in unprotected areas. This is shown by the data of forensic doctors.
„As of the beginning of the year, we have registered about 44 rescue actions with 48 people saved. This alone does not give an idea whether this beach is dangerous or not. It is always preferable for people to bathe on guarded beaches, because between 08:00 and 18:00 there will be help that can be provided to them if needed”, Ivan Georgiev from the Institute of Water Safety.
„It is nature after all. The beaches are sufficiently well cleaned and secured. "Incidents are rather due to non-compliance with the instructions of rescuers during working hours, and statistics show that 95% of these incidents are either in unguarded areas or after the working hours of the rescue service," he explained, quoted by bTV.
And on one of the beaches on our Black Sea coast, lifeguards guard in pairs – with mixed teams of Bulgarians and Poles. We meet Robert, who also has extensive experience as a lifeguard in the Pacific Ocean, and Sycamore, who, when not saving drownings, is an English teacher.
„Joint beach duty is a great chance to exchange experience between 2 different cultures and we are very happy to have this opportunity. This helps to improve the quality of our services – "Robert himself and many people from his team have experience in America as lifeguards," says Yavor.
