"I I am a former employee of the Ministry of the Interior, and during the years when I was in active service, there were no such protests. There have been injustices, but there were no such protests, because that is not how it is done. The law does not allow police officers to protest. Such protests are immoral because they throw a heavy image slap on the Ministry of Internal Affairs and show the deep politicization that has occurred and is deeply irregular. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has been politicized by all active players on the political field in the last 5 years. What we are seeing right now, dozens, hundreds of policemen protecting their minister, is wrong. There is nothing spontaneous in this protest," declared the co-chairman of the Atlantic Council, Ivan Anchev, in "Denyat ON AIR".
According to him, the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are used by the politicians and these organized spontaneous protests confirm it.
"The one who will succeed Minister Stoyanov must hold the organizers to the strictest responsibility, they know who they are. Many of the police officers are disgusted by what is happening. We are talking about a very heavy politicization in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is based on the principle that it must be loyal, regardless of whether it does work. These protests show the heavy dependence and a number of irregularities are being committed," added Anchev to Bulgaria ON AIR.
What influence do politicians have on the Ministry of Internal Affairs?
According to the guest, politicians try to use the Ministry of Internal Affairs as a club, because they know that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has a good amount of information.
"Politicians see the Ministry of Internal Affairs as a means to achieve their goals, instead of seeing the Ministry of Internal Affairs as an important formation that should only protect the law and citizens. Let's not forget that it was during the time of Kalin Stoyanov that the DPS became a second political force, which only leads to one thought that somehow the vote was controlled", comments Anchev.
If the Ministry of the Interior is willing to fulfill its role, it can be a very reliable defender of democratic processes and fair elections, Anchev is categorical.
"In no case should the Ministry of Interior provide an umbrella in any direction. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has all the resources to counteract this harmful phenomenon, such as the buying and selling of votes. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has the opportunity not only with its tools, but also with a number of technical means. Thousands of honest and decent men and women work in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. My reproach as a citizen is not to those in the very square of the "spontaneous" protection of his minister, but to those who organized it", he stressed.
