Drastic difference in the salary increase in Sofia

Private companies in Sofia give higher salaries, but salaries in the public sector increase much more , the NSI data show.

In the second quarter of 2024, the average gross monthly salary for Sofia increased by 3% compared to the first quarter, reaching BGN 3,129. For the public sector, the average remuneration is BGN 2,997, and for the private sector – 3,160 BGN, writes Pariteni.

In one year, salaries in Sofia have increased by 16%. However, the difference in salary growth in the private and public sectors is quite large. The average monthly salary in the public sector increased by 26%, while that in private companies grew by 14%, NSI also reports.

By the end of June 2024, the number of employees in the capital increased by only 0.1% compared to the end of March and reached 809.9 thousand.

The largest share of employed persons is in the activities “Trade, repair of cars and motorcycles” and “Creation and distribution of information and creative products; telecommunications” – 20.6 and 13.5% respectively.

Towards the end of the second quarter of 2023, those working in the public sector decreased by 0.1% (to 148.6 thousand), and in the private sector they increased by 0.2% (to 661.3 thousand).

For a year, the number of people working in the capital increased by 1.4% compared to the end of June 2023.
