BGVEA: There is misinformation about the wind energy sector and a risk to energy security - 1

There is misinformation about the wind energy sector and risk for energy security, they write in an official address to the media from the Bulgarian Wind Energy Association.

Here's what the position says:

With this position, we would like to express our strong concern about the spread of false and unfounded claims and concerns about the negative impact of wind generators on human health and nature. Within the last few months, the wind energy business has faced increasingly frequent attacks on the Internet, social networks, as well as negative public sentiments in the areas where wind projects are being developed.

The sources of this misinformation threaten the energy independence of the country and create a risk for the implementation of national and European goals and strategies in the field of energy and climate. The spread of false statements causes anxiety among the public, as a result of which a number of difficulties are created for the developing wind energy projects. Moreover, the obstruction of projects through the means of disinformation is also in contradiction with the goals and measures set in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRSP). Failure to comply with the measures laid down in the National Environmental Protection Act will inevitably lead to significant losses for the country's economy.

In the Internet space, articles and publications with false content and statements about the harmful effects of wind generators, without absolutely any argumentation, analysis and expertise, are often found, which is incomprehensible and unacceptable to us! Wind energy is actually at the heart of solving the problem of climate change, with wind energy being by far and away the cheapest at the moment. The energy from new wind plants is not subsidized and not bought at a preferential price, it competes with other energy sources and leads to a decrease in the price of electricity traded on the energy exchange. Speculations about the excessive impact of wind farms are unfounded.

Before the construction of such an object is permitted, the investment intention goes through a number of exploratory studies, it is required to issue expert opinions and permit documents that determine the permissible impact of the project.

On its BULGARIAN WIND ENERGY ASSOCIATION + 359 88 920 68 22 [email protected] WWW.BGWEA.EU 21 HRISTO BELCHEV STREET, SOFIA 1000 wind generators are standard technical equipment that is certified and complies with all EU norms .

We appeal to the Bulgarian media, which has an important role to inform the public, to verify the facts and not to become an instrument of false propaganda that works against the interests and laws of Bulgaria. Obtaining cheap and clean energy from a local resource would only contribute to increasing the competitiveness of the industry and to the growth of the country's economy. In this regard, our appeal is that wind energy projects in our country should not be obstructed, but quite the opposite – to speed up the process of their integration, with a view to guaranteeing the energy and economic stability of the country!
