The director of the theater and the philharmonic in Razgrad - the conductor Levon Manukyan - was released on bail of BGN 50,000. He was banned from leaving the country. Manukyan was released by the prosecutor's office late last night.
He cooperated with investigators and gave explanations, NOVA learned. A charge of embezzlement on a particularly large scale has been brought against him.
According to the prosecutor's office, nearly BGN 1.7 million were embezzled from the Ministry of Culture. Four people are involved in this scheme.
The investigation is being conducted in Plovdiv, as two of those involved were detained on the “Trakia” highway.
The investigation is related to fictitious appointments of employees in the theater in Razgrad. It is about people mostly from Pernik, persuaded to join by Atanas Georgiev, who presented himself before the court as a freelance stuntman. The newly appointed did not receive the money, they gave it to Atanas Georgiev in question, and he gave it to a third person. A bonus remained for those appointed – the payment of social security. A newly hired person received a salary of BGN 25,000 for 3 days in the theater.
