Finally, the three accused of dealing in radioactive americium remain in custody. This was decided by the Plovdiv Court of Appeal, which confirmed the restraining order imposed by the district magistrates.

During the arrest of the defendants, a total of 81 tiles of the dangerous isotope were found in several places. The magistrates considered that there was a real danger that the detainees would abscond or commit another crime in case of a possible lesser measure.

The decision of the Court of Appeal is final and not subject to appeal.

We remind you that the three were detained during a secret operation by DANS and GDBOP in Plovdiv and Karlovo a few days ago. Initially, four people were arrested, and on September 19, charges were brought against two men - Georgi Kulov from Karlovo and Boyan Zelenkov from Parvenets. A day later, Vasko Asenov was also brought in as a defendant in this proceeding, in whose yard in Plovdiv the investigators found another tile hidden in a brick.

In addition to criminal association, the men are also charged with possession of a substance dangerous to health. They knew each other, and the plates were acquired by a person living in Sopot. He was found to have a conviction dating back to 2009 for acquiring and possessing the same plates. After inquiry, the investigators found out that the person in question died in 2018.

The price of one of the ionizing tiles on the black market is 5 thousand euros.
