Minister Mundrov: About 9,600 voting machines are out of warranty, but this does not predetermine that they are broken - 1

Minister of e-Government Valentin Mundrov gave a briefing in the CEC on the occasion of the upcoming elections and the machine authentication process.

"The procedure of building the executable code from the source code was done a while ago. The procedure was carried out by the CEC, and the role of the Ministry of e-Governance is to provide a secure environment without the Internet. This is one of the last steps in the authentication process," said Mundrov, quoted by Dariknews.bg.

Later BIS and BIM will sign the certification decision, which is the last step of the whole process, the minister added, recalling that the process started two weeks ago.

Mundrov pointed out that the other commitment of the Ministry of Electronic Government is video surveillance and video recording after the end of the election day. According to him, this would restore citizens' confidence in the electoral process.

"What we requested from the CEC is to review the so-called parameterization software, through which each machine is parameterized for the specified section. "All checks show that there are no vulnerabilities in this software," he added.

"About 9,600 machines are out of warranty, and all the machines purchased are about 12,000. Just because the warranty has expired does not mean that they are broken, we have to treat them with care, which the CEC also does, including prevention and diagnostics before every election," said the minister. He stated that he did not think there was a problem that the warranty had expired.

In these elections, there will be 9,453 machines in the country, and 157 outside the country, the minister also said. "There are no paper experts in the e-governance ministry, what shows the teamwork is that in all the tests no problem is observed," he said. Mundrov pointed out that what has been improved for video surveillance is a feature where the device used to shut down due to lack of power. According to him, now when the battery is running low, the device itself will "talk and say" that it needs to be connected to an electrical circuit.

After the briefing, a demonstration vote with the machine was carried out.
