Stankov: The chief prosecutor should complete the mandate, not receive a completely new one - 1

It is an unwritten tradition that ministers of justice do not they make proposals for the high posts in the judicial system, because it would be considered as interference by the executive power. I think that the Acting Minister of Justice - Maria Pavlova quite deliberately refrained from running for the post of Prosecutor General. I respect her opinion. This is what the former Minister of Justice Anton Stankov said on the occasion of Borislav Sarafov's candidacy for chief prosecutor.

„Was it moral for the parliament not to elect a Supreme Judicial Council for so many years? Why didn't they initiate a procedure? In my opinion, we are witnessing behind the scenes. Apparently there was no prior political agreement. The root of immorality is in the National Assembly, he pointed out in the program "Offensive with Ljubo Ognyanov". on NOVA NEWS.

To the question of how long the new chief prosecutor will take office and whether his mandate should be full, Stankov replied that this should be considered by the Constitutional Court. “The arguments are more about completing the mandate, not a completely new one”, the former justice minister also pointed out.

Stankov asked what kind of control over the executive power the parliament has.

„We have to get used to the idea that the Constitutional Court is a political body, not a body of judicial power. The relevant authorities are represented in it and political decisions are made in it. This is the second chamber of the parliament," said the former justice minister.
