Yovo Nikolov: I hope that there are mechanisms and morals to prevent Sarafov from being elected - 1

" I do not see what would happen so that the nominee Borislav Sarafov would not be elected as the chief prosecutor. History shows that such changes are possible. Through In 1998, President Stoyanov refused to appoint Boyko Rashkov, said the journalist from "Capital" Yovo Nikolov in an interview with BNR

"The SJC was replaced and Nikola Filchev was elected. The consequences were not good, because Filchev turned out to be a controversial and radical figure with a major contribution to the current situation in the judicial system," he argues.

And added:

"I hope that there are enough mechanisms to prevent Sarafov from being elected, and all the authorities involved in the appointment will need to be mobilized. Mobilization means that even if the letter of the law is respected, there are still moral norms that we have turned our backs on in the last 30 years and must be respected in order for this society to move forward."

He commented on the statement of prosecutor Vladimir Nikolov, chairman of the Association of Prosecutors, that everyone else is to blame for the current situation, but not the prosecutors.

"I am suspicious when labor collectives explain the situation around them and give or not give support for someone. We know that the prosecutor's office is a hierarchical structure and people in it are dependent on their superior, so these comments are a bit suspicious," the journalist pointed out.

Yovo Nikolov also expressed his doubts about contracts in the National Assembly and trade for certain people who should head regulators and other institutions.

Which necessitates a quick election of the chief prosecutor by this SJC, "if we assume that Sarafov copes well with the functions of the chief prosecutor, why not wait for the change of the SJC".

"What I see in the rush is that the prosecutor's quota in the SJC is close to one politician. We can't want to have justice when we appoint such a controversial figure as chief prosecutor," commented the journalist from "Capital".
