Rumen Radev: The SJC has demonstrated that it is woven of addictions - 1

Public expectations for the new chief prosecutor, to restore the sense of justice, are huge. In this mission, he should enjoy high public trust, and this requires the legitimacy of his choice. The current Supreme Judicial Council, after everything it has done, cannot meet these high public expectations. It has repeatedly demonstrated that it is subject to the political conjuncture and is woven from addictions. He demonstrated it with his latest decision to nominate only one candidate for this post. This is what President Rumen Radev said to journalists after the opening of the Annual Meeting of Local Authorities, organized by the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria.

„People's representatives, current and future, must clearly understand that the timely election of the members of these important bodies, such as the SJC, is not a matter of desire and opportunities, but is their constitutional duty. And this should happen as soon as possible, Radev also pointed out.

„Let the memory of the “assembly”, which instead of implementing the Constitution, decided to change it, hang like an earring. Today we are reaping the poisonous fruits of this assault on her," the president said, quoted by Nova TV.

„With the procedure itself, as they started it and they plan to continue it with one candidate, the personnel of the judicial power guarantee nothing but exposure of the procedure itself to risk. One thing is certain - they created tension not only in professional circles, but also in the whole society. And in this way, they put the procedure itself at risk and deal a serious, successive blow to this system, which is extremely important for Bulgarian statehood,”, the president also said.

He pointed out that "not only society, but also the parties will win if, at least for a few days, they leave the subject of “who is worse” and open the big debate that we are all waiting for - how to make it so that if they take power, Bulgaria will be safer, stronger, more successful and richer".

Rumen Radev also commented on the relations between Bulgaria and North Macedonia. “Negotiations ended in July 2022, when both parties signed the bilateral protocol under the Treaty of Good Neighborhood and Cooperation. If we talk about dialogue, it should be conducted between North Macedonia and the European Commission. Dialogue, on the basis of the accepted negotiation framework for the PCM and with full unanimity from all member states, also accepted by the government of North Macedonia. Dialogue on the conditions that the RSM must fulfill in order to start negotiations for EU membership. Bulgaria can help in this process", emphasized Rumen Radev.
