This Thursday (October 17) the early warning and disclosure system BG-ALERT will be tested nationally. In the interval from 1 to 1:30 p.m., people will receive a one-time message on their mobile phones in Bulgarian and English, accompanied by a specific sound and/or vibration.
"We are currently fine-tuning the system so that it works as it should. He took his first steps, the first one was not so successful. In the Elin Pelin explosions, messages were received by those who were supposed to receive them. The reason is in the setting of our phones. There are also those that do not support this system - the oldest ones. This is an Internet message, not an SMS. In its majority, the system covers the needs, it works on the territory", the adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs and former head of the DG "Fire Safety and Protection of the Population" told Nova TV. Nikolay Nikolov.
According to him, BG-ALERT has an option to warn in case of traffic jams as a result of accidents that make traffic difficult.
"The fine point is making the decision when to send a message to people. Mayors, ministers and regional governors can decide, it is not 100% automatic, it is a matter of judgment what is dangerous. The Fire Directorate conducted training to know how to make a decision. If an authorized person feels unprepared, he can seek help from the headquarters in Sofia," he explained.
