"It is very small the circle of people who can nominate candidates for attorney general." This was stated by lawyer Emil Georgiev from the "Justice for Everyone" initiative. on the air of BNT.
Georgiev is adamant that since we have only one candidate for chief prosecutor - Borislav Sarafov - we are clearly "playing it safe". "A very broad, corpulent figure stands in the shadow of this choice," he stressed.
It is unprecedented for the candidate for chief prosecutor to have clear contacts with Petyo Evroto - a person about whom sufficiently unflattering data from the point of view of the law has accumulated, the lawyer also said.
At the same time, the former city prosecutor of Sofia Nikolay Kokinov sharply criticized the parliament for not doing anything to change the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) for 2 years. There can be no SJC just because the deputies don't want to do their job, he specified.
Georgiev, however, did not agree and reminded that for a long time in the parliament he "aged" a bill to amend the Law on Judiciary and that concerns the election of the Chief Prosecutor. The lawyer also looked at the European Court because of the choice.
Whoever orders and chooses the chief prosecutor guarantees himself the absence of prosecution for 7 years, the lawyer added.
