We will probably have a low voter turnout again , but at the same time we didn't see any active election campaign. This was stated on bTV by Prof. Vanya Nusheva, lecturer on electoral systems, quoted by novini.bg.
According to her, the leading factor in voter apathy is the way parties represent their interests when they enter parliament.

They promise something and then there is a discrepancy with the practical actions in the parliament. People lose confidence in the parties when they do not fulfill what they promised, pointed out Prof. Nusheva.

When asked if changing the electoral system would solve the problem, she replied that it would “seemingly“.

„Since the beginning of the Liberation, our electoral system has been changed 12-13 times... the change in the technical conditions under which we conduct the elections will not solve the fundamental problems of our political life. Points of contact between the parties must be sought, because the pragmatic approach is lacking, she added.
According to political scientist Daniel Stefanov, political parties no longer have the strength, the financial resources, or the desire to do more election campaigns.

Party system cannot produce majority and rule. This makes going to vote pointless. The second element is whether these elections will change anything – whether there is any destiny in them. This also leads to people's ultimate decision not to engage. There is also a rather serious lack of interest in politics in general, explained Stefanov.

Regarding the change of the electoral system, he commented that such a change should be done with a careful conversation both in society and between the parties.

„But there are two problems here – public opinion would hardly support such a change, for we have seven attempts to do something, and it would stand as too artificial a majority. In addition, it will not be possible with small changes, the barrier to entering the parliament will have to be raised by at least 8 percent, the political scientist warned.
