Every serious accident occurs unexpectedly and overturns our lives, and pain and suffering then become our constant companions. Only in 2023. in our country, 525 people died and 9101 people were injured in 6993 serious accidents. In the ten months of 2024 in 6,032 serious road accidents, 376 people died and the injured – 7594. This is stated by the Acting Minister of the Interior Atanas Ilkov in an address on the occasion of the World Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Road Traffic Accidents - November 17, published on the website of the Ministry.
The consequences of serious traffic accidents worldwide are immeasurable when it comes to human life. Every year, more than six thousand serious traffic accidents occur in the country, which leave lasting marks on all of us, the minister notes.
"Let us change life together and unite in our actions to protect it. Let's be together on November 17, honoring the memory of the victims of accidents and being with the relatives of those who died in these days that are so difficult for them. Every year, the third Sunday of November is the time when the World Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Road Traffic Accidents is celebrated," adds Atanas Ilkov.
The high death rate and the extremely high number of people injured as a result of accidents are the basis of the decision of 26 October 2005. of the General Assembly of the United Nations on a global scale to pay respect to the people who lost their lives and to make a request to restore the health of the victims, the minister recalls.
"This year, Road Traffic Remembrance Day is November 17, and once again the world will bow its heads to remember the names of those whose lives were cut short unexpectedly, forcibly and without choice." Ilkov points out.
According to the minister, opposing this sad reality is within human capabilities.
"Only with the joint efforts of government bodies, local government bodies, non-governmental organizations and with our personal attitude and behavior can we find the way and the true solution to limit the factors leading to fatal traffic accidents and the loss of children , parents and other relatives. One of the ways to change what is happening, which has turned into a sad everyday life, is to correct our thinking, increase our knowledge of correct movement and improve our skills for adequate decision-making in risky situations," the Acting Minister of Internal Affairs believes.
