For another year, residents of the capital's “Krasna Polyana” alarm about dangerously polluted air they breathe. People complain that with each new fall, the air quality gets worse. According to them, no action is taken by the institutions, which endangers their health. Locals are ready to take further steps by organizing a protest to be heard.
A check by an independent source shows that last night at 00:09 hours the police station in the district “Krasna Polyana“ were 154, and this morning at 4 o'clock they were 183 with a permissible 50. On Sunday versus Monday, 200 micrograms passed.
„One of the trademarks of the neighborhood is the dirty air that can be seen and smelled. It smells like synthetics, burnt clothes, tires," complained Krasimir Petrov.
„It was very dirty here on Sunday. You could literally see the air. I assume that this comes from the Vietnamese dormitories that are close by, Radosveta explained.
Municipal councilors said what measures the municipality is taking:
„ You really don't live and breathe here. The measures taken last week – measures were voted in to kick in at much lower levels of FPR, including more inspectorate checks. Last week, 7 buildings where waste was burned illegally were removed”, said Dimitar Petrov, who is a municipal councilor from PP-DB.
„ There is a program of the Metropolitan Municipality to replace the stoves," added Simeon Stavrev, municipal councilor from PP-DB.
According to the citizens, however, the municipality's measures are not enough. They insist on a permanent solution to the problem.
