"I waited 2 days, with the hope that more media and journalists will cover the extremely serious incident that befell a young and valiant police officer from the SDVR. Alas!"
This is what the former interior minister and current MP from DPS-new beginning Kalin Stoyanov wrote on Facebook.
Here is the rest of his statement:
In cases where a police officer has broken the law, the media and the entire network thunders from morning to night, and in cases where a police officer is injured in the performance of his official duties, only silence follows.
More than a year ago, a police officer from 04RU-SDVR, fulfilling his official duty, when detaining a person who committed a crime, did not comply with police orders and in an attempt to escape from the police, lawfully used a firearm, in one of the hypotheses provided by the law on Ministry of the Interior. A power of the police that they avoid using because of such situations. Unfortunately, the colleague fatally shot the person who a few hours earlier had committed another robbery in the area of the district. Lozenets.
I remember very well how, for more than a month, all the media, journalists, various analysts, specialists, former ministers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and a bunch of other know-it-alls commented on the situation around the clock and sharply criticized the actions of the policeman and those of the Ministry of the Interior, in general . Then I had a personal meeting with this young colleague in the ministry, declared my support and firmly stood behind him.
To this day, I am of the opinion that he used his weapon lawfully, as the law requires and allows him to do. In normal countries where there is law and order, in such situations, the policeman is not criminally liable. In our Bulgaria, it was first condemned by the media, then by society, and finally by state institutions.
Before the fait accompli, I understand that the policeman has been charged with the most serious charge - a qualified composition of premeditated murder, which led to his cruel and ostentatious suicide in police uniform.
I ask myself in this situation of terrible human tragedy, who is really the real killer?
Where does the law go when the criminal has more rights than the one trying to stop him?
Where does the meaning of the law go when the one who oversees its implementation is crucified because he uses the tools given to him by this same law?
Every day we witness road murders caused by drivers under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, for which ridiculous charges of negligent homicide are brought, and a man who has done his duty has the full rigor of the law. Total madness!!!!
My most sincere condolences to the relatives of Dimitar Petrov, who forever remained at 34 years old! Deep bow!!!
