People from the Sliven village of Krushare announced that they will not allow the veterinary authorities to take samples for the presence of smallpox on sheep and goats on their farms, BNT reports. According to unofficial information, this activity will begin today, after an outbreak of the disease was discovered in the nearby village of Zhelyu Voivoda and a herd of 150 sheep was euthanized. A three-kilometer protection zone and a ten-kilometer surveillance zone were defined around the outbreak, which includes eight settlements, including the village of Krushare. Why do people not want to allow the veterinary authorities to their farms?
"We do not agree that anyone should touch our animals because they are healthy. If an animal has no symptoms, it is healthy. There is no disease. We will not allow a single drop of blood to be taken from our animals.
"If we let someone in they could spread infection, I know?".
"The sheep are healthy - completely. They haven't been out in a month, but we ran into this case and I can say that the vets shouldn't have been allowed to draw blood. I'm not sure that the disease won't enter me, so I don't want to let them take blood.
The people of Krushare said that no one came to them and they were not informed about the decisions of the commission and that they were entering the 10 km zone. Crushare farmers asked how come there is not one place where the authorities have entered and the results of the samples are negative.
"We don't trust that when they come in they won't stab them and infect them with something. Or to give them a fake test".
