Trust in the current political model is really running out. President Rumen said this Radev at a lecture at the University of National and World Economy (UNWS) in Sofia, dedicated to the prospects and challenges for young people. The head of state answers questions from students, broadcast by BTA.
I expect the political parties, especially the Bulgarian parliament, to show reason, wisdom and to stand up to the heights that people expect from them. I expect that Bulgarian parliamentarism will prove its vitality with important decisions, said Rumen Radev.
The President was also asked about the changes in the Constitution. Now we are in a kind of paradoxical situation – the authors of these changes complain about themselves because of the changes. Two things are very important in politics – responsibility and trust. When it is done to dilute responsibility, there is no responsibility – this begins to destroy the foundations of democracy, the institutional foundations of the state, and from there the path to chaos is very short, said Radev.
The head of state indicated that he could not give advice to the Constitutional Court, but explained that he expected the issue to be resolved more quickly given the great public tension. I am not talking only about the caretaker governments, but also about a number of others issues on which I have referred him, which have a direct bearing on our future, he added. We must be extremely careful when we initiate changes to the Constitution. We made quick changes with the small majority, said Radev.
The President noted that today is the ninth attempt to elect the Speaker of the National Assembly. Has anyone ever thought that we would get this far, but apparently everything is possible in politics, pointed out Rumen Radev.
A student asked the president about the “disturbing political situation” in the country and doesn't he think that people are exactly hoping that the head of state will take measures and change it. "I get asked this question everywhere I go. I am doing everything I can within my powers as president. This question saddens and worries me. This hope and expectation in the people means that the trust in the institutions that actually have to do this work has been exhausted, Radev replied.
The question is not about salvation with one person, the question is that everyone, especially young people, realize their responsibility, that the future is in your hands, the president also said.
