Prof. Kolarova: There is a quite tangible tension between PP and DB - 1

What united the parties in the parliament for the election of the speaker, it was necessary for the National Assembly to work, even if only to organize early elections. Even if there is a government, it will only be a transition to early elections, since I don't see how, in this state of parliament, any full mandate can be envisaged. This is what he said in the program "Metronome". on Radio "Focus" the chairman of the Bulgarian Association for Political Sciences prof. Rumyana Kolarova.

During the month of chaos before the election of the Speaker of the National Assembly for the 11th time, every single party sought to show that they could block the decision-making process and made it very clear for what they were willing to block the decision-making process . It became clear that the PPs were more likely to vote and "come together" because that was their word for togetherness in Parliament, with "Revival" than with GERD. And to the extent that all sociologists predict that from now on the outflow of support for politicians will be oriented towards a project close to the president, Boyko Borisov is quite strategically oriented towards this type of cooperation that includes the president.

According to her, the formations in the Bulgarian parliament usually fall apart when some kind of positive solutions are sought, and as far as the deputies have not yet begun to seek positive solutions, it is not clear whether there will be other topics on which parliamentary groups will feel tension and disintegration. "There is a quite palpable tension between PP and DB, which is based on values, but it is not clear whether this will lead to a split. The results of the election verification will also be very important, and proceeding to consider bills may also create some kind of tension," she pointed out.

A permanent majority to stand behind a regular government is hard to predict. Such a majority according to Prof. Kolarova would be very vulnerable because everyone's main approach is to try how much they can block, not to act in any direction to achieve any goal. "The first and most important compromise is that the parties are ready to pay the electoral price for their rule, because every entry into power has its price. Every government is a compromise, even a one-party cabinet makes huge compromises."

What has become very clear in the past days is that without GERB a government cannot be formed, and Prof. Rumiana Kolarova is adamant that this time Boyko Borisov will not agree to form a government with the second mandate. According to her, it is extremely clear that the government will not do GERB with the first mandate without PP-DB. "So any other options from here on out are highly problematic. Boyko Borisov will prefer to go to early elections instead of doing such exercises, such somersaults, because they will really be "mortales" – they will cost a lot."
