Stanishev: BSP is seriously ill after these eight years of arbitrariness and internal wars - 1

"I think there are chances that these four parties will form a government. The BSP leadership is very keen to enter the government. They will find various arguments for this to happen".
Such a prediction was made to the Bulgarian National Radio by Sergey Stanishev, a former MEP and former Prime Minister of Bulgaria.

The first political force - GERB, will hold talks with the Bulgarian Democratic Party, the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the Bulgarian Nationalist Party.

"It should be clear why it is entering the government. If it enters a weak position, it will not be possible to achieve key policy parameters. The price that the BSP will pay will be too heavy. The question will be whether there is any left space in Bulgaria at all.

The BSP is seriously ill after these eight years of arbitrariness and internal wars. You cannot be effective in a government if you have 7%. You will always be second fiddle, you will be an executor of someone else's will".

He also noted the ideological and political differences in the views of the BSP and the other formations.

"The leadership of Cornelia Ninova, with one single absence – of Cornelia Ninova herself, is waging internal struggles over who will survive and who will trade the "BSP" brand for their own private benefit", the former red leader also stated.
The election of Ms. Kiselova as Speaker of Parliament is a direct function of the expectations of how the BSP will behave in the negotiations and whether it will enter the government, he also commented on the program "Nedelya 150".

Sergey Stanishev noted the benefits for our country of full accession to the Schengen area.

"The most positive thing is that an injustice is being removed. We have been fulfilling all the criteria for a long time. For more than 12-13 years, discrimination was applied to Bulgaria. Now it has been removed. It is important that we enter the core of the EU. This will give a boost to the economy.

Entering Schengen is not for anyone in particular, but for everyone together. I am sure that every political force and every government have made efforts".

The introduction of border controls by some countries is the result of domestic political problems, Stanishev also pointed out.

"If Schengen is not implemented, this will be a great loss for Europe".

It was important to agree on a change to the Dublin Regulation, which was very disadvantageous for Bulgaria, he also noted.
