“This award is recognition for hard work. It is not only an individual, but also a collective award. This is teamwork. I was very surprised, I never thought about it. 10 years is not a lot of work and time, it passes very quickly when everything becomes routine“, said this year's winner of the title “Policeman of the Year“ Junior Inspector Martin Nanchev.
“I feel satisfaction when all the efforts made lead to real results and the process of such a large amount of drugs being released onto the streets is interrupted so that it does not reach our children“, he added to BTV.
His award was presented for high professionalism, quick response and operational independence, as a result of which a large amount of drugs were discovered and detained at the Tsarevo Border Checkpoint during an on-board inspection of a yacht.
“It happened around mid-summer, July 16. I was on duty at the Tsarevo Border Checkpoint. The yacht in question arrived with a two-person crew. Based on the captain's behavior and the yacht's route, we selected it for further inspection. It was heading to Turkey. Inside there were compromised details, hidden places in hard-to-reach places in the cavities of the vessel“, said Junior Inspector Martin Nanchev.
According to him, the seizure of drugs on vessels is a precedent in our country. The yacht was selected for inspection after suspicious behavior on the part of the crew.
“This could be nervousness, speaking incoherently, avoiding contact. There was no attempt to escape, but from the cases so far of all criminals, when we find the place with the hidden goods, they flee from that place. After we established the quantity inside, our colleagues from the “Border Police“ worked on the case all day“, added the “Policeman of the Year“.
After the award, his two sons welcomed him home with the words “Dad, you are our hero“. He says that he doesn't feel like one, but simply does his job.
“If they take this direction, I will help them. It's interesting to them, they always ask me how their working day went. I want to teach them, above all, to be human“, said the junior inspector.
On the occasion of Border Police Day, he wished his colleagues to be healthy and successful in both their professional and personal lives. And to his future colleagues - to have a sense of duty to the state, to be loyal and honest and to draw from the experience of their elders.
