Journalist Liyana Pandeleeva comments on the accident that killed an 18-year-old girl. The accident occurred on the night between Friday and Saturday on the road between the town of Kyustendil and the village of Yabalkovo. Three girls were traveling in the car.
The cause of the accident was five horses suddenly stepping onto the road and hitting a moving car
"A tragic accident involving 5 horses that stepped onto the expressway and one 18-year-old victim. The victim was not wearing a seat belt. That's why she died - it wasn't because of the impact.
The outrage with loose animals is a fact throughout Bulgaria. Years ago, while I was cycling near the Batak Dam, I passed a whole herd of cows on the road that were simply on the road. The road was perfectly paved and cars drive at high speeds - sometimes three times faster than is reasonable.
I turned a bend in the road, the cows were no longer visible and a car came speeding up from above. I pretended to cross the road with my bicycle and the guy slammed on the brakes. He cursed me in every way - verbally and with his hands, but I knew that after only 50 meters he would see that I had saved his life or at least the whole car. And cows - in the countryside are usually wherever they choose.
In our country, it's just like that: only the "drummers" travel with seat belts; the center lines on the roads are visible where there was money for them; Responsibility for animals is a problem for the animals themselves - whether they will be on the road or on the tracks in front of a train is their personal decision.
There are no measures against recklessness and arrogance," concludes Pandelieva.
