After the series of holidays, increased traffic is expected to Sofia and other major cities in Bulgaria, NOVA reported.

Due to our entry into the Schengen area, the borders are open and no large queues of people waiting to enter the country are expected.

At around 8 am on Sunday at "Kulata" the situation was calm. Today, a large part of the Bulgarians who were vacationing in Greece are expected to pass through the border crossing, but much faster after the control was lifted. Despite the increased traffic in recent days, there was no traffic jam at Kresna. According to experts, this may be related to the fact that at "Kulata" cars do not wait and thus queues in the gorge are prevented.

There was no traffic in the morning on the "Danube Bridge" near Ruse. Four routes operate at the border checkpoint, on which a "Bridge" fee is paid. The crossing of cars is very fast. According to data from the Regional Administration, trips have increased by over a fifth since the beginning of the new year and the entry of the two countries into the common European space for free travel. Short-term trips are particularly impressive - many Romanians and Bulgarians travel between Ruse and Giurgiu.

Many Romanians also headed to our winter resorts during the New Year holidays. Possibly their return could create some tension when crossing the Bulgarian-Romanian border. The temporary suspension of the "Danube Bridge" repairs during the holidays also facilitates movement. The renovation of the facility will resume on January 8.

The Sofia - Varna road via Veliko Tarnovo is one of the busiest in the country. From Yablanitsa to Targovishte is the route along which the "Hemus" highway should be built, which was supposed to be ready in 2024. The expressway will probably reach Veliko Tarnovo this or next year, and the section between Veliko Tarnovo and Targovishte has not been designed at all. This creates the prerequisites for serious road accidents and heavy traffic on the last day off. The critical sections are near the village of Sheremetya, near Lovech-Yablanitsa, Sopot, Mikre and the Bulgarian Spring.
