Christian Vigenin: We will not allow people to pay the price of budget restrictions - 1

“The 2025 budget is an important test for governance. The BSP insists that the price of budget restrictions should not be paid by the people. We are categorically against stopping the growth of incomes and pensions or taking money away from social programs.“ This was stated by the deputy chairman of the BSP and candidate for chairman of the party, Christian Vigenin, to Darik radio. He reminded that it was not the BSP, but GERB that supported the 2024 budget, which, in his words, largely determines the one for 2025. “Everyone should bear their own responsibility”, he commented. The Deputy Chairman of the BSP expressed his bewilderment at the refusal to impose a tax on banks' excess profits, because if this step is taken, it could close part of the deficit.

“Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone should take place after the country is ready not only according to the formal criteria. It is necessary to take preventive measures against speculation and price increases, as well as to protect the Bulgarian economy“, commented Christian Vigenin. He believes that the experience of the countries that have already introduced the single European currency can be applied, as well as for the state to step into its functions and explain through an adequate campaign the positives and real risks of inclusion, because populist influence on society has been allowed on this topic.

Regarding the upcoming election of the Chairman of the BSP, Christian Vigenin said that he does not see a problem in the fact that there are 17 candidates: “ It's not a problem - so there are 17 people who are ready to take responsibility for the party in this difficult situation. I am ready to hear the ideas of each of them and to implement the best.“ The deputy chairman of the party reminded that he had chosen as the motto under which his meetings take place throughout the country before the congress - For a strong BSP! Together! “After the congress and the direct election, we must gather the entire potential of the party to put the BSP on a solid foundation. It is necessary to start following a policy with joint efforts that would be recognized by all left-thinking people in Bulgaria, and there are many of them. Together we must start pushing upwards so that the BSP can become an effective party, firmly connected to leftist principles and ideas, which it can implement in government“, believes Kristian Vigenin.

On the issue of speculation - who is who's man and what is Peevski's role, the BSP deputy chairman called for judging by actions and votes: “Only our parliamentary group not only adopted the so-called cordon sanitaire, but every single MP signed under it. Now Peevski is not in government, he is even positioning himself as the main opposition.“
