Every society is sick when it has a crisis. Frustration can lead to a reasonable solution and support from someone, but in Bulgaria we do not see such things. Yes, our society is sick. Unfortunately, we do not have a Mental Health Law, and we have been waiting for it for a long time.
This was said on the show "Denyat na zivo" on BNT by psychologist Ivan Igov, who commented on the two serious incidents with mentally ill people in recent days, in which first a mother killed her two children in Vakarel, and a woman stabbed three men on the street in Sofia.
"In every society between 7 and 9% are at risk of developing a mental illness. When we do not have clinical treatment paths, when the state neglects, when relatives have no one to get help from, we witness incidents like the last two. The Mental Health Act will provide guidelines on how to act when meeting a mentally ill person. I once lied to a woman to get her into a psychiatric hospital, and she was a piece of cake.
I once worked with a mentally ill teacher who could not be dismissed from her job. Now this is done through the prosecutor's office, court, etc. A Mental Health Act will provide a mechanism by which such cases can be resolved much faster, people can be treated and returned healthy to society, because medicine has advanced a lot in the treatment of mental illnesses.
Over 90% of those suffering from such illnesses can be cured and returned healthy to society without being stigmatized. All of this can be resolved through a law that clearly regulates actions when working with people suffering from mental illnesses," Ivan Igov was categorical.
