A comprehensive inspection will be carried out in the Velingrad district office. This was stated by the Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov during his hearing in the National Assembly regarding "the actions of the Ministry of Interior (MI) in connection with a signal about video files from the archive of Petyo Euroto and data on alleged crimes committed by senior police officers on the territory of Velingrad in order to cover up already committed crimes by third parties". The case dates back to 2016.
If data on a crime is found or administrative violations are established, the Ministry of Interior leadership will be assessed as to what actions to take. At the time, no evidence of a crime was found, this is the assessment of both prosecutors' offices, but actions that damage the image of the Ministry of Interior and do not instill confidence in the system, of course, must be established and, based on what has been established, the appropriate disciplinary or other actions must be taken, the minister commented.
"In connection with the video files distributed in the public domain, which are alleged to be part of the so-called Petyo Euro archive, I inform you that they are known to the “Inspectorate“ directorate at the Ministry of Interior,” Mitov noted.
The filmed actions of the police officers from the Velingrad regional office were the subject of an inspection by the “Internal Security“ directorate, which began after a complaint filed on November 28, 2016, by a local citizen about the theft of hunting trophies from her home – deer antlers and pig tusks. The person complained about the inaction of a police officer after she herself recognized the incriminating deer antlers in a restaurant in 2018 and reported it to 112. The antlers were returned to the complainant, who has claims against the relevant police officer for inaction in investigating the case and capturing the perpetrator, the minister explained.
A commission from the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Pazardzhik began work on the case and operational search measures are being carried out in parallel. By a decree of March 16, 2020, the supervising prosecutor terminated the criminal proceedings because the act did not constitute a crime, Mitov also explained.
On August 30, 2024, a ministerial order ordered an inspection to be carried out in the “Internal Security“ directorate. The task is to verify the unlawful use of results from secret materials by a senior official of the “Internal Security“ Directorate, acquired in the course of the actions taken after the complaint was filed about the stolen deer antlers and pig tusks, said Daniel Mitov.
The chronology presented in this way seriously doubts the existence of some mythical archive of Petyo Euroto. Not without reason, the cited information on this case suggests that various materials that were not assessed as sufficient material evidence to bring charges are being distributed in the public domain as part of the aforementioned mythical archive, the Minister of the Interior also said.
