“I strongly believe and hope that the competent national and European authorities will do their job and get to the truth. The ongoing scandal is big and calls into question the work of not only the Bulgarian but also the European prosecutor's office”. This is how Vice President Iliyana Yotova commented on the case of the investigation of the Bulgarian European Prosecutor Teodora Georgieva. We recall that she was temporarily removed from office because of several videos. The first clip was published and sent by a person posing as former investigator Petyo Petrov - Euroto. It is alleged that it was made in the restaurant “Osemte dvujeta” and contains a conversation with Georgieva. Days later, a second recording appeared, also sent to the media by a person signing himself Petyo Petrov, showing the former investigator with a woman who is again claimed to be the European prosecutor.
Laura Kövesi's office announced that they had decided to launch an administrative investigation into possible violations committed by Georgieva and subsequently temporarily removed her from her post.
“All of us as a society, as Bulgarians, need the truth to come out, even more so on the eve of our accession to the eurozone. I do not want this sign of doubt to be placed on Bulgaria”, Yotova also said.
