At a time when economic inequalities are deepening, and wealth and power are perceived as a guarantee of untouchability, it is important to remember that our constitutional government is based on equality before the law and the dignity of all people. This was stated by the head of state Rumen Radev in his greeting on the occasion of the Bulgarian Constitution Day and the professional holiday of Bulgarian lawyers, the press service of the head of state announced.
"There is no good governance, nor justice where the law is not applied equally to all", he added.
Today, on which we celebrate the first Bulgarian constitution, is also an occasion to celebrate the merits of the deputies of the Constituent Assembly, who on April 16, 1879. in Veliko Tarnovo, laid the foundations of our statehood, added President Radev and emphasized that the principles enshrined in the Tarnovo Constitution for equality of citizens before the law and responsible governance remain permanently in our constitutional tradition and should serve us as a political reference point in all moments of national trials.
The Constituent National Assembly consciously and categorically excluded any prerequisites for inequality in society, added the head of state and pointed out the prohibition of slavery, titles of nobility and the division of people into classes, as well as the rejected various types of electoral qualifications, which at that time were widely represented in the constitutions of other European countries.
In his greeting, the head of state also congratulated Bulgarian lawyers on their holiday and wished them success in their professional activities and in their public vocation to defend the principles of the rule of law.
