Sofia's transport blockade: Signatures for stopping the metro have been collected - 1

Sofia continues to be blocked for the sixth day due to the transport strike of workers in surface urban transport. The protesters are currently meeting with Mayor Vasil Terziev.

The chairman of the Federation of Transport Workers in the "Podkrepa" Trade Union, Ivan Kirilov, told Bulgaria ON AIR that they expect and hope for white smoke.
According to him, the demands remain exactly the same and the workers have not changed their decision.

"We have already made a discount from 400 to 300 leva once. We will talk to the workers again to get out of the crisis. Workers show up for work, they are simply prevented from doing their job by people standing in front of the barriers who are not on shift," Kirilov commented.

He specified that the workers are aware of the risks, but insist that they will not change their demands, even if they are not paid for the days they protest.

It is impossible to say how long there will be no transportation in Sofia
Ivan Kirilov pointed out on the air of "Bulgaria Morning" that the situation with the matriculation exams is getting hysterical. The unions are expecting data on the children who have nothing to get to schools.
"We will transport the children for free in private cars - -100-200-300, it doesn't matter how many there are, but so that all those in need can be covered. At this time, there is no possibility that the transport will operate during the matriculation exams," Kirilov said.

Will the metro stop working?
Kirilov announced that the signatures to stop the metro have already exceeded the half required by law.

"It is not excluded that the metro will stop. If we stop the metro, there will be huge chaos", he warned.
The chairman of the Federation of Transport Workers still believes that this situation can be resolved through dialogue.

"If we do not reach an agreement with Mayor Terziev, three committees will start working in the afternoon to consider a framework with a set salary increase. The committees alone are not enough. There must be a decision by the SOS, and that is only on May 29, when they adopt the Sofia budget,", Kirilov also said.
