Bulgaria is ready to adopt the euro and we must be calm and certain about the benefits of the single European currency. This was stated by the Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank Dimitar Radev.
Radev specified that the bank is completely calm about the process of adopting the single European currency. According to him, our country confidently fulfills the nominal criteria, including those for inflation.
„We are familiar with the convergence reports of the European institutions in advance, they are positive“, the Governor of the BNB told bTV. In February, the government requested extraordinary convergence reports from the European Commission and the European Central Bank to show whether Bulgaria meets the criteria for entering the eurozone. The official results are expected in June.
He commented that if a survey were to be conducted among the people about the euro in a year, he said that the support would be much greater because they would have felt the benefits.
He attended the opening of the Cash Services Company in Pleven of the BNB and four other shareholder banks. It will service the cash flows of banks in Northern Bulgaria and 400,000 end users, such as retail chains and gas stations.
„All the new member states have entered with more or less the same ratio of support and people who are more skeptical, about 50%, in one direction or the other. A year, two, three after that, the support is over 70% almost everywhere. Give an example of a member state that has joined and is close to us, where prices have increased dramatically, incomes have decreased and savings have evaporated. Quite the opposite,“ he added.
