Former Minister of Interior Boyko Rashkov from "We Continue the Change" categorically denied any involvement in announcing orders for icons and other similar items during his tenure at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, news.bg reports.
Rashkov came out with a sharp position regarding the allegations of the current Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov about a scandalous public procurement in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"The manipulation is short-legged. I have not announced an order for any icons and the like. "Not even such an idea was discussed in the ministry in the political leadership when I headed the Ministry of Internal Affairs," Rashkov told journalists in the National Assembly.
He specified that he had not signed any contract for the purchase of such items, and anyone who claims the opposite must present specific evidence.
According to Rashkov, the basis of the case is a letter from the Guarantee Fund, which according to the law must be coordinated with two institutions - the Financial Supervision Commission and the Minister of Internal Affairs. He pointed out that these funds were allocated from the fund by law - 5% of the revenues for campaigns in the field of traffic safety.
"The owner of the funds is the Guarantee Fund. It is not about spending public budget funds - neither of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, nor of any other state institution", Rashkov emphasized.
He added that during his administration no contracts were signed, nor were public procurements announced in a similar direction. According to him, what is happening now is the use of the topic for political purposes and is the result of ignorance of the matter.
"In a later period, including now, such a public procurement was announced and as far as I know, such contracts have been concluded - but not for 3 to 5 thousand leva, but for several hundred thousand leva", Rashkov added.
