Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev commented on the city's budget adopted yesterday in the show "From the Day" on BNT.
"The aim is to make my work as mayor and the administration as difficult as possible. The budget that we submitted has been very seriously reshaped and in a very unpleasant way. It is very important to have an understanding of how much of these 3 billion the mayor has control over. A huge part is for activities delegated by the state, that is, we are like a mailbox. I cannot stop paying teachers' salaries so that I can build streets or the money can be used for transportation. You take away a few hundred million for cleaning and landscaping, you take away 200 million in subsidies and in reality there are 150-200 million left, over which you have a little more control. An 80 million correction is also being made to these 150-200.", said Terziev.
Terziev also explained his sharp reaction to the municipal councilors, whom he accused of hypocrisy, regarding their proposals, including replacing pavements on several main boulevards, repairing kindergartens and building new ones, building the Eastern Tangent and tram platforms.
"Their proposals are not bad, but there is a way to achieve this. The correct way is when you do not accept the budget, you vote "against" until the moment when the mayor submits a budget for which you can vote positively. It is not your way to spend three hours one day before the vote in the budget committee reading literary sites. Everyone who supported them did not know what these sites were. "This thing passes and the next day a draft budget is voted on, and even now, a day later, they don't know what they voted on, whether it's legal and whether the bill will come out," the mayor commented.
