As for the Polish elections, the word shock is common for President Donald Trump, who loves loud words, loud phrases, and not so much the situation there. In Bulgaria we are not surprised by the elections in Poland, because until three years ago the conservative forces in Warsaw had all the power - they had a parliamentary majority, they also had a president. Now they have retained the presidential post, and currently their opponents have formed a colorful coalition to govern. Some even expected a slightly more pronounced advantage for Karol Nawrocki, because we saw these dramatic numbers that appeared on the screens after the elections. Poland remains divided along the liberal and conservative axis and there is nothing particularly surprising in this. This vote is not a big surprise even for Brussels, because the Brussels liberals still retain positions in the executive branch. Now Prime Minister Tusk is talking about a vote of no confidence with the idea of triggering elections, and there already with the hope of maintaining a good result or increasing it in these elections. This was announced to Lili Marinkova in the studio “FACTI“ and the program “Conversation“ by Prof. Georgi Chankov, a lecturer in international relations at the UNWE.
“The Polish political reality is much more balanced than ours, if we have to make any comparisons. We must also add that Brussels has not had such strong positions in Poland for a long time as it has in Bulgaria, in neighboring Romania. The reaction to the elections in Poland in the US is not due to some political conjuncture, but is logical, because the Poles have long chosen the US as their strategic ally regardless of whether Democrats or Republicans are in power in Washington. It is important to say that in the 90s, Poles joked that the largest Polish city was not Warsaw, but Chicago. In the 90s, about 200 billion dollars poured into Poland in addition to the funds from the European Union, which explains why today Poland is a serious economic and political center in the European Union, as well as why the Poles, who were a little behind us then, are now light years ahead of us“, the guest also commented.
