„The Bulgarian government is working to reform the legislation for predictability and legal certainty, as well as for the modernization of the opportunities for more labor. Investments - foreign and Bulgarian, mean the creation of more jobs. That is why good communication with business is of particular importance to us“
With these words, the Minister of Justice Georgi Georgiev addressed the participants in the Ninth Annual Meeting of the Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum (BBLF) with foreign ambassadors. The main topic of the discussion was the successful economic and social development of Bulgaria.
Traditionally, the meeting is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in partnership with a prominent representative of the diplomatic corps in our country. This year, it was the new British Ambassador to Bulgaria, Nathaniel Copsey, and the event was attended by representatives of more than 30 diplomatic missions, as well as senior managers of dozens of leading companies.
Minister Georgiev presented to the forum the government's progress over the past 5 months in terms of fulfilling the main criteria for our country's entry into the eurozone and the OECD.
“With the adoption of the Law on the Protection of Persons Filing Signals or Publicly Disclosing Information on Violations, we have implemented one of the important measures for preventing corruption, both in the private and public sectors. We are working to relieve the workload of the courts and speed up the judicial process“, said Georgiev and added that tomorrow the parliament is due to vote on regulatory changes that introduce a mandatory information meeting for the mediation procedure for certain civil and commercial cases. This will lead to an increase in the efficiency of civil and commercial justice.
Georgiev also informed that normative changes for digitalization are ready and are about to be approved by the parliament, obliging institutions to communicate with the court entirely electronically and tightening the rules for the work of arbitration courts. The ministry is also working on drafting a law on lobbying activities.
He also emphasized the prepared legislative proposals against money laundering. “They aim to improve the current legal framework regarding the criminalization of bribery of foreign officials and to improve the regime for engaging the responsibility of legal entities, provided for in the Law on Administrative Offenses and Penalties.“
Representatives of the diplomatic missions welcomed the progress made by the government in Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone and expressed support for its accession to the OECD. They expressed confidence that legislative reforms will help ensure legal certainty and a safer environment for investments.
