The Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions (CTU) reports price increases for a number of goods, the Ministry of Finance responds with new measures - 1

The state with new measures against price increases - this time through the already adopted Law on the Introduction of the Euro. At the same time, the unions note a noticeable increase in the prices of basic food products.

To shop as cheaply as possible, the best plan is to go not to a large chain of stores, but to a market. Consumers note that the prices at the stall are much more acceptable than those at the counter.

According to the calculations of the CTU, last year we could have bought all 21 products from the small consumer basket for 103 leva. Today, this amount is already 111 leva. And we can buy these products much fewer times with one minimum wage than the countries in Western Europe.

„In Bulgaria we can buy them 9.7 times. In Romania - 17 times. Croatia - 17 times. In Spain - 21 times, France - 26 times, in Germany and the Netherlands - over 30 times”, explained Lyuboslav Kostov.

The conclusion - in terms of prices we are close to Europe, in terms of incomes we are not.

„We have achieved the level of convergence in prices. Only income policy remains”, Kostov added.

To combat high prices, the government is proposing harsher penalties for speculation and a longer period for the ban on unjustified price increases.

“We believe that it is in the interest of consumers to extend this period, which will start from the period of dual price indication and will last until December 31, 2026”, explained Temenuzhka Petkova.

The Law also provides for criteria for labeling and dual price indication.
