The fire in the land of the village of Ilindentsi, which broke out late last night, was extinguished around 5 a.m. this morning. This was announced to the Bulgarian National Radio by the mayor of Strumyani.
Initially, the fire covered between 50 and 100 acres of dry grass and juniper bushes, and there was a danger of it reaching the village of Ploski and the international road E-79.
During the night, firefighters and volunteers prevented this, despite the strong wind, said Emil Iliev.
Yesterday, the large fire near the village of Gorno Spanchevo near Sandanski was brought under control.
Separate fires continue to burn in the "Rila Monastery" nature park, where the fire is at an altitude of 2,000 meters. Their extinguishing will continue today.
