Prices in stores: How much will the consumer basket cost in July - 1

Bulgaria is getting closer to the introduction of the euro. It is already clear that from January 1 next year, this will be the only currency in our country. Against this background, prices in stores for some goods are increasing, while others remain unchanged. Large chains are already displaying prices in leva and euros. It is important to note that chains often launch weekly or monthly promotions, so that basic foods can be bought cheaper than at regular prices. DarikNews' check for July shows an increase in the price of butter and eggs, but prices for other basic goods remain the same. We remind you that we did such a check of prices in large chains in June as well.

Here is what the check for July shows.

White bread – (650 grams) retains its price of 1.99 leva, but in places it can be found for 2.19. Whole grain bread also retains its price and reaches 2.89 leva.

Cow butter (250g): 9.99, when there are weekly promotions – the price is 5.99 leva. Last month the butter was sold at a price of 8.99. In some chains it continues to be at that price, and in others it is already 9.99.

Eggs (L, 10 pcs.): 5.99 leva. This is also an increase of 1 leva compared to last month. The price of eggs has been unchanged for several months. During weekly promotions, size M eggs are sold at a price of 4.49 leva.

Flour (1 kg) remains unchanged compared to June: 2.15 leva.

Oil (1 l): 3.29. In some retail chains, the price may drop to 2.49 leva or rise to a maximum of 3.99.

Fresh milk (1 l): 3.59 leva. In weekly promotions, the price varies and may drop to 2.99. The price is the same compared to June.

Yogurt (400 g): 1.89 leva. The price is the same in several chains and remains unchanged compared to June. In some weekly promotions, the price can drop to 1.49 leva.

In small neighborhood stores, prices are usually slightly higher, but sometimes discounts on basic products are also observed there.

We recall that a few days ago it became clear that there was a slight change in the price of basic food products, with the change in the price of the consumer basket being 2 leva higher at wholesale, reaching 107 leva compared to 105 leva last week. This was announced by the Chairman of the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets (DCBMT) Vladimir Ivanov to journalists.

Tomatoes are traded for 2.40 leva per kilogram, with the highest peak value last week - 2.47 leva per kilogram. Currently, the price trend is downward. In June, tomatoes were sold for about 2.34 leva per kilogram, and pink ones at a price of about 5 leva. The price of potatoes in July is 1.17 leva per kilogram, and in June it was 1.25 leva per kilogram.

The check does not include meat, cheese and yellow cheese, as they can be purchased from specialized stores and their price varies.

A few days ago, the chairman of the Bulgarian Consumer Federation Vladimir Ivanov said that there was a slight change in the price of the small consumer basket, but noted that we may be at the lowest peak value for this year.

DarikNews will check the prices of basic foods from the consumer basket every month to monitor whether there is an increase, decrease, or maintenance of prices.
