An Air Force crew from the 24th Aviation Base in Krumovo with a "Cougar" helicopter took off today, July 27, at 8.20 a.m. to assist in extinguishing the large mountain fire that has spread in the area of the village of Ilindentsi, Strumyani municipality, Blagoevgrad region.
A second "Cougar" helicopter took off from the air base at 9.46 a.m. to assist in extinguishing the same fire, the Ministry of Defense reported.
A team of the Land Forces consisting of 19 servicemen with 6 specialized vehicles was activated at 8.50 a.m. to extinguish the fire in Veliko Tarnovo, which broke out in a pine forest between the neighborhoods of “Cholakovi“ and “Buzludzha“. The servicemen are from the 59th Battalion for the Fire and Rescue Service and E Gorna Oryahovitsa.
The servicemen are acting after permission from the Chief of Defense Admiral Emil Eftimov and in close coordination with the relevant regional services “Fire Safety and Population Protection“.
