There will be no protest due to the suspension of trains on the Petrich - Kulata line. This was agreed upon at an emergency meeting by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Lyuben Nanov and mayors of settlements in the Petrich region, BNT reported.

The locals expressed their readiness to close the "Struma" highway, but today the problem was resolved. The two sides reached a consensus after concessions. Minister Nanov promised that the suspension of trains would be from August 1 to September 15, and not as planned - until September 30.

He undertook to hold a conversation with the bus company that will take over the transportation of passengers, that absolutely all stops along the route would be served. The timetable, which was released by BDZ at the end of last week, made it clear that places such as Heraclea Sintika, Rupite and Marikostinovo were to remain outside the transport scheme.

Local mayors insist on receiving written assurances about the commitments made in order to be sure that they will be respected. According to Deputy Minister Nanov, the suspension of trains is necessary due to the reduced volume of passengers on the line, as well as the redirection of some of the carriages to other, more congested points in the country.

The mayor of General Todorov, Stanislav Stankov, stated that there will be no change in the price of the ticket.

"Passengers will buy a ticket for the train, but will travel by bus. All purchased season tickets also remain valid", Stankov said.
