Over 30,000 acres are affected in the Strumyani Municipality. This was announced by the regional governor of Blagoevgrad Georgi Dinev, quoted by Nova TV.
„There is no danger to people in nearby settlements. The fire is at a sufficient distance. We are monitoring its development. There is a wind that has once again changed its direction. We have deployed teams in the closest settlements to the fire,” Dinev said.
The fire is mostly in forest areas, very difficult to access. Dinev described the teams fighting the flames as “heroes.”
„Over 150 people worked in the field today, there are over 22 fire engines on site, over 65 employees of the Southwestern State Enterprise, over 25 military personnel from the nearby unit in Blagoevgrad, so we have a resource in the form of manpower. Unfortunately, the wind is getting stronger, it often changes its direction, and this manpower cannot be used rationally in the field for ground firefighting,” Dinev said. He said that for the moment there is no need for more volunteers.
