One of the main problems for firefighting in our country is that we do not have enough aircraft. We rely only on the Air Force and their 4 helicopters. This was stated to bTV by Eng. Ventsislav Stankov, president of the "Ogneborets" union to the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions, quoted by novini.bg.
"The problem with helicopters is that they can carry a smaller amount of extinguishing fluid, and due to the high temperatures, part of it evaporates before reaching the fire."
The expert said that airplanes can only load water from large bodies of water.
"Last year, there were steps to purchase such equipment, but so far nothing has happened. If there is a political decision, it will also become clear who should dispose of the equipment. Currently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs does not have the capacity for this."
According to Stankov, a full 36 hours of valuable time were lost waiting for help from Europe.
